Massage Therapy at The Brost Clinic
The Brost Clinic offers several massage modalities:

Swedish – most often practiced in the United States: long smooth strokes varying in pressure from light to medium to deep.  The massage therapist will use the pressure that is most comfortable to you.

Shiatsu – a form of Japanese bodywork that uses localized finger, thumb and palm pressure; improves the flow of energy and helps the body regain balance.  The client remains clothed during the massage.

Deep tissue – Swedish massage targeting deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.  Deep tissue is best for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury.   The therapist may incorporate pressure point work (pressing and holding various points on the muscle with thumbs, hands or elbow) and stretching.

Medical Massage - includes a structural analysis of problem areas to determine which muscles are causing or contributing to the problem.  The muscles are then worked at the connective tissue level using positioning to reduce pain during the treatment.  Joint and passive muscle stretches are also used to release muscle tension.  Lotions/creams are not used during the treatment, although medicinal oils may be added to assist in muscle and pain relief.  Medical Massage Therapy is generally therapeutic and used for rehab, stress/tension, sports, pre-natal and relaxation.

Sports (pre- and post-event) - specifically designed for those involved in strenuous physical activity.  Pre-event Sports Massage is designed to increase peak performance, prevent injury and improve flexibility.  Post-event massage is aimed at treating injury, loosening muscles, and alleviating soreness.  Current and former clients of Brost Massage Therapists include professional athletes and professional dancers.

Rolfing - Rolfing is a specialized method of hands-on physical manipulation that is designed to restore the body to its healthiest and most efficient alignment. Rolfing straightens posture, improves range of movement, relieves tense muscles, and increases general vitality by progressively stretching the soft tissue, the myofascia, which surrounds the muscles throughout the body.

Pregnancy (prenatal) – specialized, gentle massage; expectant mother is properly positioned and supported throughout the massage with exceptionally comfortable cushions, specifically designed to support the changing body.

Aromatherapy - addition of one or more scented plant oils called essential oils to address specific needs. Oils selected will be relaxing, energizing, stress-reducing or balancing, according to the effect you wish to achieve.

Raindrop Therapy
- combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex (“vitality through the reflexes”), a specialized form of reflexive massage using rolling and releasing motions in the application of essential oils to the spine, feet and legs, creating structural and electrical alignment, and bringing physical, mental and emotional balance and harmony to the body.  Raindrop Therapy supports the body's self-regulating system to allow rapid healing.

Chair massage - typically lasts 5 - 20 minutes, and is performed while fully clothed with the client relaxing in a specially designed chair. Seated massage is an excellent introduction for those never having experienced massage before.
